For Maria Messner the World Cup in Oberhof is already over - UPDATE

The Nations Cup was held today as part of a Sprint Cup, in which the seeded luge women also took part. The Germans were once again the measure of all things. Natalie Geisenberger took victory in 44,648 seconds ahead of her teammates Tatjana Hüfner and Anke Wischnewski. With Dajana Eitberger, Aileen Frisch and Schwab Corinna, another three black, red and gold tobogganers placed in the top 8, only the two Americans Julia Clukey and Erin Hamlin were able to stand up to them.

The race was unfortunate for Sandra Gasparini from Vipiteno. She made a false start and was disqualified. There was also nothing to gain for the South Tyrolean men. Armin Zöggeler from Völlan and David Mair from Meransen finished ninth and 13th respectively in the Sprint Cup.

Rieder/Rastner on the podium in the Sprint Cup

The sprint race went well for Ludwig Rieder from Merans and Patrick Rastner from Lüsen. The two ended up in third place behind the two German duos Eggert/Benecken and Wendl/Arlt. At the finish they were 0,158 seconds behind the winners. Tenth and eleventh place went to the other two South Tyrolean doubles Oberstolz/Gruber and Fiwickeler/Schwienbacher.

Maria Messner once again narrowly missed out on a starting place in the World Cup race on Saturday in the Nations Cup. The young tobogganer from St. Lorenzen fell by the wayside in 18th place by just one place and 96 hundredths.
