On the one hand, the races in Calgary represent the fourth stop of the World Cup, and on the other hand, they mark the end of the first half of the season - after which the lugers go home and take the Christmas break. So it's not surprising that the South Tyrolean athletes want to give themselves an early Christmas present in the Canadian metropolis. Above all, Dominik Filehner, who has regained a lot of self-confidence after his second place in the sprint competition in Park City and is attacking in Calgary - also because the Mühlbacher is currently in third place in the overall World Cup. The double-seaters Christian Oberstolz and Patrick Gruber are also traveling to Canada with a big chest - they won the sprint race the previous week and thus interrupted an impressive series: for 15 races only the two German double-seaters Wendl/Arlt and Eggert/ Benecken on the highest podium. As a result, the Meransener and the Lüsener were able to compete for the first time since the 25th. January 2014 ensure a non-German victory. Small side note: As luck would have it, the winning duo in Sigulda, Latvia, was called Oberstolz and Gruber. In addition to the normal Viessman World Cup, the second stage of the BMW Sprint World Cup will also take place in Calgary. In addition to the three starters mentioned, there are also numerous other South Tyroleans taking part. In the men's singles Kevin Fiwickeler and Emanuel Rieder, in the women's singles Andrea Vötter and Sandra Robatscher and in the doubles Ludwig Rieder and Patrick Rastner. Traditionally, the race weekend opens with the Nations Cup on Thursday, which also serves as qualification for the World Cup races, but experience shows that the South Tyrolean participants master it easily.
