Queens in the ice channel! Vötter and Oberhofer on the throne

The two artificial track lugers from South Tyrol are the first overall World Cup winners in the women's doubles competition. Andrea Vötter recently had an interview with SportNews revealed: “After the first training sessions, we realized that we can be really fast. That's why we started the World Cup winter on a trial basis." The trial run has now become a real success story.

The experienced 27-year-old from Völs and her teammate from Rodeneck, who is five years younger than her, already made their overall World Cup victory clear in the penultimate stage in St. Moritz. After running the best time in the first round, they had to admit defeat to the German duo Degenhardt/Rosenthal by a measly two thousandths, but second place was enough to defend their lead in the overall ranking.

Vötter and Oberhofer benefited from the performance of their worst opponents, the Austrians Selina Egle and Lara Michael Kipp, who made up ground in the second round but had to settle for fourth place in the end.

As a reminder: This year the women's doubles were allowed to compete in a World Cup season for the first time. This discipline celebrated its premiere at the World Championships last year, when Vötter and Oberhofer hadn't even started yet. Now the two of them have the trophy for the overall World Cup victory in their pockets before the final stop in Winterberg.

Rieder/Kainzwaldner champions in Konstanz In the men's doubles, the Azzurri are not permanent podium candidates this season, but Emanuel Rieder and Patrick Kainzwalder have been consistently in the top ten for weeks. On Saturday, the South Tyrolean duo took fifth place after two consistent runs. Ludwig Rieder and Patrick Rastner, on the other hand, didn't get past twelfth place.

The day's victory went to the Germans Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt, who extended their lead in the overall World Cup before the final in Winterberg next weekend.
