Lake Placid: Two South Tyrolean victories in the Nations Cup

As always in the Nations Cup, in Lake Placid (USA) on Thursday evening (local time) it was all about the last starting places for the World Cup races on Friday and Saturday, which this time also include sprint races. Of the South Tyroleans, Dominik and Kevin Fiwickeler (men's single-seater), Andrea Robatscher (women's single-seater) and Ludwig Rieder/Patrick Rastner (double-seater) are currently eligible to compete in the World Cup, without having to go through the Nations Cup.

However, the regular starters receive strong support from their teammates, who were largely able to impress in the Nations Cup.

Andrea Vötter and Oberstolz/Gruber cannot be beaten Andrea Vötter from Völs won the women's race ahead of Ulla Zirne from Latvia and Raluca Stramaturaru from Romania. Vötter has already won a Nations Cup race this year, in Innsbruck/Igls, where she then achieved her best career result in the World Cup, finishing sixth. A good omen, then.

In the doubles, victory went to the “toboggan grandpas” Christian Oberstolz/Patrick Gruber, who are still among the best in their 21st (!) season. Behind the South Tyroleans, the two US pairs Hyrns/Espinoza and Krewson/Sherk took the places of honor, while the second South Tyrolean duo Florian Gruber/Simon Kainzwaldner also easily qualified for the World Cup with fifth place.

Only in the men's single-seaters did the South Tyroleans not play first fiddle. The Russian Semen Pawlitschenko won there - with a new track record - ahead of the US boy Cloy Morris Taylor and the Latvian Inars Kivlenieks. Emanuel Rieder qualified for the World Cup in a good fifth place, while Theo Gruber unfortunately missed his run and was not allowed to start in the World Cup in 20th place.

Last World Cup race before the turn of the year The last World Cup races of 2017 will take place in Lake Placid, which should also be a preliminary decision for the Olympic team. World Cup races will follow in January at Königssee and in Oberhof, Lillehammer and Sigulda.
