Nagler/Malleier again in the top 10

The German luge world champions Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken celebrated their seventh victory of the season on the 1994 Olympic track. The double-seater duo, which also won a Sprint World Cup this winter, clearly won ahead of the Austrians Peter Penz and Georg Fischler on Saturday and is about to win the overall World Cup for the third time. The Olympic champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt from Bavaria finished third around three weeks before the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and remain second in the overall ranking.

Ivan Nagler and Fabian Malleier finished seventh, 0,993 seconds behind Eggert/Benecken. So far the two youngsters have competed in three World Cup races this year and have always finished in the top 10: 6th in Altenberg, 7th in Königssee and 10th in Oberhof.

Ludwig Rieder from Meransen and Patrick Rastner from Lüsen, the other doubles duo nominated for the Olympics, did not get past 13th place.

South Tyrolean women miss the top 10

Before the doubles, the women competed in their World Cup race in Lillehammer, in which the South Tyrolean women were unable to compete: Sandra Robatscher from Tiers came 12th and Andrea Vötter from Völs 16th.

Olympic luge champion Natalie Geisenberger narrowly missed her sixth win of the season. The 29-year-old from Bavaria took second place in Norway after two runs, 0,033 seconds behind Summer Britcher from the USA. Nevertheless, with 880 points, Geisenberger is close to winning the overall World Cup for the sixth time in a row. Third and fourth were the other Germans Julia Taubitz with her first podium finish and Tatjana Hüfner.

On Sunday, the men's single-seater competition will follow first, followed by the sprint races for all sled types.
