Oberstolz/Gruber win bronze at the Sprint World Championships in Königssee

The sprint is a new discipline in artificial track tobogganing. Last year, sprint races were held in the World Cup for the first time. The sprint starts normally, but the time is only measured 100 m after the start. Plus there is only one run. In the doubles, the two-time Olympic champions and two-time world champions Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt lived up to their role as favorites and won in 39.032 seconds ahead of the Tyrolean duo Peter Penz/Georg Fischler (+0.229). Bronze went to the experienced Christian Oberstolz/Patrick Gruber, 396 thousandths behind the winners. The 38-year-old from Antholz and the 37-year-old from Kienser (turns 38 on Sunday) benefited from the disqualification of Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken, who were originally in second place. The Germans were removed from the rankings by the race organizers because their sled was 200 grams too heavy.

Third World Championship medal for Oberstolz/Gruber For Oberstolz/Gruber it is the third World Championship medal after silver in Cesana 2011 and bronze in Sigulda last year. The World Championship titles in the Olympic disciplines will be awarded at Königssee at the weekend. On Saturday (January 30, 2016) the decisions will be made in the doubles (start; 12:45 p.m.) and the women's (15:20 p.m.). The men will choose their world champion on Sunday (January 31, 2016) from 10:15 a.m. The team relay will conclude the 46th FIL World Championships at Königssee, starting at 14:00 p.m.
