The recipe for success: 2 solid runs. After round 1, still in 4th place, Rieder/Kainzwaldner were able to celebrate third place after the 2nd round, in which they achieved the fifth best running time. The winning Austrian duo Juri Thomas Gatt and Riccardo Martin Schöpf were 3 seconds behind. Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl completed the Austrian double victory with second place (+0,125).
The top 3 also benefited from a serious mistake by six-time Olympic luge champions Tobias Wend and Tobias Arlt. The Bavarian duo was in the lead after race 1 and had victory in sight. In the final round, they hit the barrier twice in turn 9 and only ended up in 16th place, over a second behind Gatt/Schöpf.
Ivan Nagler and Fabian Malleier ended up in 5th place, Ludwig Rieder and Lukas Gufler finished the race in 13th place.
