Olympic luge champion Loch wants to continue racing until 2026

“If my body cooperates, I will definitely continue until Beijing 2022,” said the 29-year-old from Berchtesgaden in an interview with the news portal t-online.de, “after that I will see what happens next.”

This is also related to the venue for the 2026 Winter Olympics. “If the games are assigned to a traditional winter sports venue, I want to continue my career until then,” added Loch. His favorite? “I would really like to drive in Calgary. That would be very attractive to me,” said Loch, who would be 36 years old in Canada.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has been deciding on the candidates for the Winter Games in eight years since Wednesday (October 3) in Buenos Aires. Until recently, Calgary, Stockholm (Sweden), Erzurum (Turkey) and Milan with Cortina d'Ampezzo were among the contenders.

Loch sharply criticized the IOC when awarding the 2018 and 2022 Winter Games, saying that “the financial interests of the IOC were in the foreground, but the factors that were more important for sport were not taken into account. Sustainability and environmental awareness have not played a role in the IOC's decisions. Money decides, not reason.”
