Sensation: Toboggan legend “Schorsch” Hackl goes to Austria

The German toboggan legend Georg Hackl is moving to the Austrian toboggan association as a supervisor. The three-time Olympic champion confirmed this to the Münchner Merkur/tz media group. Previously the newspapers had Austria and The World reported about it. The ÖRV confirmed discussions, but did not want to confirm the prominent access before a media event on Thursday. The 55-year-old Hackl was a long-time coach in the German association. Most recently, he was involved as a technical trainer in the gold coup at the Olympic Games in Beijing, when the Germans won all four competitions and took silver twice. “Together with my athletes we rocked the toboggan world, but now it’s time to go,” said Hackl. “The offer was lucrative for me.” Hackl, who was called “Schorsch,” was “very happy” that Prock, of all people, approached him with it. The German association confirmed the departure. “I spoke to him for a long time, but the offer was too attractive for him,” said sports director Thomas Schwab. Hackl won three Olympic gold medals (1992, 1994 and 1998) and two silver medals and was three times world champion in the single-seater. He leaves the German association with an excellent eulogy. “The fact that Schorsch is leaving us is of course extremely painful after all these many years together,” said Felix Loch, a three-time Olympic champion himself.
