Despite an outstanding first run: Verena Hofer not in the top 1

After the men's singles, the women's singles were on the program today at the World Cup in Altenberg. A South Tyrolean woman made people sit up and take notice in the first run, but then Mother Nature became her downfall.

Verena Hofer from Feldthurns will probably remember this first round of the World Cup race in Altenberg (Germany) for a long time. She was in the lead after the first run thanks to an outstanding performance. The second South Tyrolean, Nina Zöggeler from Tiers, also finished in a strong seventh place. In the second run, however, the conditions increasingly deteriorated due to the rain and suddenly those athletes who had placed worse in the first run had an advantage. The final winner Julia Taubitz (Germany), for example, was in 1nd place after the first run. The Latvian Elina Ieva Vitola came in second, and the Austrian Lisa Schulte was also on the podium.

After two decent runs, but it was almost impossible to pull anything apart due to the poor conditions, the two South Tyroleans ended up outside the top 10. While Nina Zöggeler couldn't get past 16th place, Verena Hofer ended up in 13th place. For the luger from Feldthurns it was a very bitter pill to swallow, especially since she showed a really strong performance in the first run.
