Unbeatable: Armin Zöggeler is world champion!

The exceptional athlete from Völlan conjured up an almost perfect second run in the ice channel and pushed half-time leader Felix Loch into second place. Zöggeler, who was in second place after the first run, gave the young German star a bomb time of 51.970 seconds despite unpleasant weather conditions. Loch couldn't do anything to counter this, lost his entire lead and had to admit defeat in the end, 0,021 seconds behind.

“It is a sensational success. The second trip was the deciding factor, I managed it almost without any mistakes,” said Zöggeler happily after reaching the finish line. With the world championship title, he took revenge on Felix Loch, who recently stole the show from him at the Olympic Games in Vancouver and the World Championships two years ago in Lake Placid. For the 39-year-old Zöggeler, this is the sixth world championship title and also the first since 2005 (see profile below).

Behind Loch, his compatriot Andi Langenhan secured the bronze medal. Fourth place also went to the German selection with David Möller. Reinhold Rainer follows closely behind in fifth place. The 37-year-old from Jaufental made people sit up and take notice in his last World Championship appearance with a rapid second run and improved by three positions. In the end he was 0,633 seconds behind Zöggeler. David Mair, however, was unable to make it into the top ten in 12th place.
