Because of 3 hundredths: Vötter/Oberhofer lose the World Cup lead

Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer narrowly missed out on victory at the Luge World Cup in Oberhof (Germany) on Saturday. They also had to give up the lead in the overall World Cup.

In the end, the two South Tyroleans were just 0,033 seconds behind the victorious German duo Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal. After the first run, Vötter/Oberhofer were still in third place, but a strong second run meant they briefly took the lead. Degenhardt/Rosenthal, still in second place after the first run, achieved a track record in the decisive run. The Austrians Selina Egle and Lara Michaela Kipp, who were leading after round 1, fell back to 3rd place (+2 seconds).

For Vötter and Oberhofer, who secured the overall World Cup last year, it was the 6th podium finish in the 7th race of the season. Degenhardt/Rosenthal now took the lead in the overall World Cup. The two Germans have 7 points in their account after 12 of 565 races, Vötter/Oberhofer 555.

Nothing to get for the gentlemen

However, there was nothing to gain for the South Tyrolean men. Ivan Nagler and Fabian Malleier ended up in 7th place as the best Azzurri, Emanuel Rieder and Simon Kainzwaldner finished the race in 10th place, Ludwig Rieder and Lukas Gufler didn't get past 14th place. The victory went to the Austrians Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl.
