The World Cup returns to Moos

After the turn of the year, the winners in the singles, doubles and the thrilling pursuit competition will be chosen in Moos from Thursday, January 9th to Sunday, January 12th, 2020. The Passeier toboggan club, one of the oldest clubs in South Tyrol, is already in the middle of the preparation phase for the 2nd of 6th World Cup stages 2019/20.

The anticipation for the luge world cup on natural track is certainly great in the Passeier Valley. No wonder, the organizers are continuing a long tradition of organizing international competitions in the Passeier Valley. “In our long history we have organized one World Championship, two European Championships and four World Cup races. We also determined the Italian champions twice and competed for the Intercontinental Cup once. “There are also a number of races at local and state level that took place on the challenging Bergkristall track,” explains OC boss Willi Klotz.

Double World Cup with thrilling pursuit races The World Cup kicks off from December 20th to 22nd in Obdach-Winterleiten (Styria). At the beginning of January 2020, the best lugers on natural tracks will pitch their tents in the Passeier Valley. “It is de facto a double World Cup, because in addition to the traditional singles and doubles races, we will also be holding the pursuit races. These races are particularly exciting and will attract many fans to the Passeier Valley,” say Klotz and the President of the Passeier Toboggan Club, Hubert Folie, with conviction.

Also because the organizers want to inspire people with an appealing supporting program. Only South Tyrolean winners at the last “Psairer” World Cup in 2018 By the way, the defending champions will all be there in Moos - and they are all South Tyrolean athletes. In the men's singles in January 2018, world champion Alex Gruber (Villanders) prevailed ahead of Thomas Kammerlander from Ötztal and the living natural track tobogganing legend Patrick Pigneter (Völs). The women's race was decided by the local hero from Passiria and reigning world champion Evelin Lanthaler with a large lead over the Russian Ekaterina Lavrenteva and Greta Pinggera from Laas. Patrick Pigneter and his partner Florian Clara (Campill), however, triumphed in the doubles. They are also the reigning world champions in this discipline.

Four years after the European Championships and two years after the last World Cup in the Passeier Valley, the elite natural track lugers will return to the Bergkristall track next winter.
