Evelin Lanthaler – much more than just a tobogganing superstar

The sheer numbers alone speak impressively for the 29-year-old from Passeier: 4 large crystal balls, 4 times overall World Cup runner-up, 30 World Cup victories since Saturday, 3 World Cup gold, 5 European Championship gold - it's understandable that she doesn't count more follows. “You don’t really count yourself, but it’s nice when someone tells you that you have 30 victories,” she said on Saturday after her anniversary success, which she celebrated in, of all places, her home in the Passeier Valley. Two sisters as role models The three girls at Lanthaler from Platt in Passeier really enjoy sledding with their competitors. They were fascinated by natural track tobogganing when they were children. Sandra, the eldest, became European champion in 2002 and won gold at the Junior World Championships in the same year. Today she is a big fan of “chick” Evelin. Franziska, the second oldest, even beat the boys in the youth categories.

The superstar of the family is of course Evelin. “I started as a child, then took a short break and have been skiing intensively for almost 20 years,” says Evelin, looking back briefly on her career: “Tobogganing is simply fun, and even more so if you are successful. I invested a lot in the summer every year and went to the gym in Sinich several times a week for strength training. This is also important for the head, a fit athlete can perform better and deal with the pressure better,” says Lanthaler. No forcing The toboggan queen doesn't allow herself to feel a lot of pressure before a competition. Except on Friday (“my head didn’t really want to cooperate”) on their home track in Platt near Moos. But in the second home race on Saturday, Lanthaler was back to his old self and won superiorly: “In the starting area I can still make jokes, exchange ideas and only five or six minutes before my run do I concentrate fully on my ride, the line and all that Things I have to do well,” says the always in a good mood toboggan queen. “Natural track tobogganing at the Olympics? I have a lot to thank him and my family for. “The parents Erna and Alois and my siblings are a great source of support,” says Evelin, who she owes a debt of gratitude to. The toboggan freak Lanthaler is a cheerful person, she doesn't dwell on things for long and doesn't look too far into the future. “The toboggan scene suits me. But I only think from year to year. We all get along well. In the South Tyrolean team, people support each other, there is no envy. Of course everyone wants to be the fastest on the track,” admits Lanthaler. “I don’t see any fun in it either,” explains the competitive athlete. Waitress for 9 months Of course, you won't get rich as a natural track tobogganer. “I work as a waitress at the Hotel Kronhof from March to November and do strength training during my room hours. From December to February I concentrate fully on tobogganing. The 29-year-old has now won everything, even several times. Lanthaler's dream of the Olympics will probably no longer come true. "I do not think so. A lot is being done and marketing has improved a lot for natural track tobogganing, everything has become more professional.” A bit superstitious Evelin is also superstitious; she always puts on her left glove first. She would love to spend her dream vacation in the mountains and climb a 3000 meter peak. She could also imagine a future as a trainer. Evelin Lanthaler was born on May 6, 1991 in Meran and lives in Platt in Passeier. She is 1,65 meters tall and weighs 55 kilograms.
