Greta Pinggera's doubts have disappeared

The fact that the natural track tobogganing season is over is always clear on Greta Pinggera's social channels. Then the woman from Val Venosta likes to look far away. Two years ago, when the world was still corona-free, she went to New Zealand for several weeks. This year, the 26-year-old set off to Portugal for a long-distance hike at the beginning of May. “I hiked from the interior to the southwestern point of Europe. In total, I walked 12 kilometers in 250 daily stages,” reveals Pinggera in an interview SportNews .

At the beginning, the 2017 world champion was traveling alone, but then she received support from her mother on her demanding hiking tour across the Portuguese idyll. “I like to take some time out for a trip. I always think to myself: What you have experienced, you have experienced. If you didn’t see anything of the world, I would miss something,” explains Pinggera. She always needs a break like this to clear her head. She has now succeeded, also in terms of sport: Pinggera will also be in action in the World Cup next season.

Nevertheless, Pinggera still has the desire to build something for herself at some point - but that can still wait.

“The idea of finally selling the toboggan was not concrete after last season. Instead, I decided to keep going for at least another year. There will be an important decision in the summer of 2022: Then we will find out whether natural track tobogganing will be Olympic or not. Only when I know that do I want to think about the sporting future again,” said Pinggera. A 12 hour day between training and cake The woman from Lasa is currently fully training again. Because she also has to work in the pastry shop at the same time (“I am mainly active in the bakery”), it is often not easy to accommodate the units. “My day usually starts around 6:12 a.m. I train for two hours and then go to work. “My luck is that I can organize the job well myself,” says Pinggera happily. Nevertheless, a day like this can sometimes be long. “It happens that I’m on my feet for XNUMX hours at a time. But I like doing it,” says Pinggera.

In any case, the woman from Vinschger has already set her goals for next season. “Of course, beating Evelin (Lanthaler, editor’s note) is always the goal. I want to be at the top of the World Cup and hope to be able to start again.” There is less confidence in the Olympic decision when it comes to natural track tobogganing. “I'm not actually a pessimist, but until I see in black and white that our sport will become an Olympic sport, I have little hope.” But that's a long way off. Also for Greta Pinggera, who is currently focusing on other things - especially returning to the toboggan run.
