International luge races on natural tracks have a long tradition in the Passeier Valley. “In our long history we have organized one World Championship, two European Championships and five World Cup races. We also determined the Italian champions twice. Once, however, the Intercontinental Cup was contested. “There are also a number of races at local and state level that took place on the challenging Bergkristall track,” says OC boss Hubert Folie, not without pride. This week the World Cup will be in the Passeier Valley for the sixth time, and for the second time in a row. For local hero Evelin Lanthaler these are very special races. On the one hand, because she has matured into the best natural track tobogganer in the world on the Bergkristall run and contributes to the success of the popular South Tyrolean stage on the organizing committee. On the other hand, because the four-time overall World Cup winner can celebrate the 30th World Cup success of her career on her home track. The 29-year-old, who also triumphed on the Bergkristallbahn last year, currently has 29 victories and a total of 55 podium places. The competition is eager for a comeback The other defending champions in the Passeier Valley are Alex Gruber (men's single-seater) and the double-seater team Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara, other top South Tyrolean tobogganers. We can also be excited about Thomas Kammerlander's comeback. The Ötztaler, who has won the overall World Cup in the past four seasons, had to miss the start in Winterleiten and is now returning to racing - three weeks before the home World Cup in Umhausen. The racing program in the Passeier Valley has a total of seven decisions. After a day of training on Thursday, January 14th, the first dice will be cast on Friday, January 15th. After the first rounds starting at 9 a.m., the winner of the men's single-seater will be announced shortly after 11 a.m. An hour later, however, we will know who had the upper hand among the women. The final run for the doubles is scheduled for 14 p.m. The racing program on Saturday, January 16th begins at 10 a.m. with the first round of the doubles, followed by the tobogganers (10.30 a.m.). The doubles final will take place at 11.15:12 a.m., followed by the women's final (from 11 p.m.). Finally, on Sunday, the winners of the men's single-seaters (final from 12.45 a.m.) and the final team competition (XNUMX p.m.) will be crowned.
