The South Tyroleans rule in Moscow

After the third World Cup stage on Saturday in Moscow (see own report) World Cup races were again on the program in the Russian capital on Sunday. A pursuit race was actually supposed to have taken place, but for organizational reasons it was decided at short notice to hold conventional races with two races.

The races were all about the South Tyrolean toboggan races. Alex Gruber for the men, Evelin Lanthaler for the women and Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara in the doubles ensured South Tyrolean success throughout.

Alex Gruber strikes back In the men's category, world champion Alex Gruber struck back. After the man from Villandro had to give way to European champion Thomas Kammerlander on Saturday, this time he came out ahead of Patrick Pigneter from Völs thanks to a perfect first run. For Pigneter it is the first podium of the season after three fourth places in the individual. Kammerlander took third place.

“The first run was really great. This track doesn't forgive mistakes and this time I showed two very good runs," said a delighted Alex Gruber, who also took the lead in the World Cup rankings with his second win of the season. “This victory was extremely important, also to keep the tension in the title fight. Now I have a slight advantage, but Thomas Kammerlander is in top form, so everything can change very quickly,” explained Gruber. Pigneter/Clara cannot be beaten In the doubles, Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara put the balance of power back on track with their second win of the season. After third place on Saturday, the World Cup leaders impressed with best times in both runs and celebrated an unchallenged victory, ahead of the Russians Aleksandr Egorov/Petr Popov and Saturday's winners Stanislav Kovshik/Ilia Tarasov. Lanthaler continues to win In the women's category, Evelin Lanthaler, who had already triumphed on Saturday, was victorious again. After the first run, the Russian Yekaterina Lavrentjewa was still in the lead, but with a flawless run in the decisive second run, Lanthaler hit back and triumphed ahead of Lavrentjeva and the Austrian Tina Unterberger. “I was nervous before the first run and didn't ride easily. In the second run I found the right mix of anger and relaxedness,” said the World Cup leader, analyzing her performance. The defending champion is not yet looking at the overall World Cup: “Of course four wins are a great record, but the season is still long. Mistakes happen quickly and we will only be settled at the finale in Umhausen,” said Lanthaler. Alexandra Pfattner from Latzfons took fourth place, Greta Pinggera from Laas had to settle for fifth place this time.

In the World Cup standings, Evelin Lanthaler has 400 points, her teammate Pinggera follows in second place with 295 points, and Lavrentyeva is third with 280 points.

Next weekend the World Cup will stop in Deutschnofen, followed by the World Cup in Latzfons.

The South Tyroleans rule in Moscow

At the World Cup for natural track luge, the South Tyroleans won big on Sunday and secured all the victories: Alex Gruber won in the men's category, Pigneter/Clara won in the doubles and Evelin Lanthaler also triumphed again.
