“Every single race will be a highlight”

The start of the World Cup had to be postponed by two weeks due to a lack of snow. What are the conditions in Kühtai today?

Peter Knauseder: “It looks very good. The track is iced, everything is ready to race. Nothing stands in the way of an exciting competition.”

What do you expect from the coming season?

“The 2018/19 World Cup is of course a very special one because it is a World Cup season. The World Championships from January 31st to February 3rd in Latzfons are clearly the highlight.”

Are there any other highlights?

“Depending on how it goes, each of the six World Cup stations is of course a highlight. We are confident that the World Cup will take place in Moscow in mid-January. After the cancellation last season, this is very important for us. And we think that the decisions in the overall World Cup will probably only be made at the final in Umhausen in mid-February, which would of course be a very exciting story.”

How is the youth sector developing?

“The Junior World Cup is particularly important to us, and this racing series starts at the beginning of January and is very well received internationally. It is important that the young athletes can compete internationally. The highlight is the Junior European Championships in February in Umhausen.”

How are the respective organizers doing?

“I think we are well positioned. Every venue, every organizer, is involved with a lot of commitment and passion. That's up to 150 volunteers working every weekend, which is sensational. We as FIL do our best and stand shoulder to shoulder with the respective organizing committees on site. The races are becoming more professional and international every year. “I am therefore firmly convinced that the 2018/19 World Cup will bring further improvement, both organizationally and sportingly.”
