Natural track tobogganers are ready: this is how the new World Cup season is going

The new season begins shortly before Christmas with the classic in Obdach-Winterleiten. “The track has been ready for racing and in operation since the beginning of December, we are ready,” says OK boss Hubert Götschl, looking forward to the opening race. Several national teams (including Germany and Poland) recently trained on the track in Winterleiten. The FIL school with young tobogganers from Ukraine, Serbia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and France was also a guest in Winterleiten for four days, where the starting signal for the new World Cup season for juniors will be given on December 30th and 31st.

The winners of the last World Cup in Winterleiten in January 2019 (due to snow chaos the World Cup had to move from St. Sebastian to Winterleiten, editor's note) were Thomas Kammerlander (AUT), Evelin Lanthaler (ITA/Platt in Passeier) and the South Tyroleans Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara.

The first race of the new year is the World Cup in the Passeier Valley, where the only pursuit of the winter will also take place. After Vatra Dornei (Romania), the World Cup follows in Deutschnofen, and on the second weekend in February the FIL World Cup in luge on natural track stops in Železniki (Slovenia). The last time we fought for World Cup points on the demanding track was in January 2017. The World Cup final will take place as usual in Umhausen (Austria) and is also the dress rehearsal for the 23rd FIL World Championships in luge on natural track in 2021. Lanthaler and Kammerlander defend overall victory For the men, the Austrian Thomas Kammerlander was able to go into the summer break with the big ball for three years in a row. Last season, Kammerlander only won the battle for the ball with Alex Gruber (Villanders) at the final in Umhausen. Evelin Lanthaler has been successful in the women's competition for the last two seasons. In the doubles, Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara secured their 10th overall victory. Two championships There are two title fights in luge on natural track in February 2020. The juniors choose their world champions in St. Sebastian (Austria). The 28th European Luge Championships on Natural Track will take place from 21st to 23rd. February in Moscow (Russia). The 10/2019 season of the FIL World Cup in luge on natural track begins in 2020 days. The first stop is Obdach-Winterleiten (Austria) from December 20th to 22nd. The World Cup will be held at six locations in four countries until mid-February 2020.
