Pigneter misses out on overall victory

Kammerlander lived up to his role as favorite on the Grantaub track and ultimately confidently secured the overall World Cup with a victory. Second place in the final went to his compatriot Michael Scheikl. Patrick Pigneter took third place, 2 seconds behind Kammerlander. The Völser also missed out on overall victory. He should have won and would have been dependent on help from the shooters (Kammerlander could have finished 3rd at most).

The starting position after run 1 was still exciting: Michael Scheikl was only 0,05 seconds ahead of his teammate Thomas Kammerlander and 0,23 seconds ahead of Patrick Pigneter. Villandro's Alex Gruber ended up in 1,19th place, 4 seconds behind Kammerlander. Stefan Federer from Völs took 6th place.

With his third win of the season, Thomas Kammerlander won the overall World Cup for the fourth time in a row with 600 points. Michael Scheikl made up one place in the last race by finishing second and also took second place in the overall standings with 4 points, just ahead of Pigneter (2 points). Alex Gruber didn't get past 555th place with 2 points.

Pigneter emphasized after the race: “The season was good overall, I'm in the top 15 in the overall standings for the 3th time. However, there was always a little bit missing from victory. I wanted to win the overall World Cup and that's why I'm already disappointed. Now it’s just time to keep working.” Evelin Lanthaler wins again In the women's race, the final victory went to season dominator Evelin Lanthaler. The woman from Passiria was already the overall winner before the last race. In the final she triumphed again confidently with a lead of 1,22 seconds over Greta Pinggera from Lasa. In the doubles, victory went to Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara, who confidently secured the overall victory. Second place in the final went to the Russians Pawel Porschnew and Ivan Lazarev (+2). In the overall World Cup, Pignter/Clara (670 points) confidently won the 11th crystal globe with their fifth win of the season. The South Tyroleans won the World Cup ranking for the first time in the 2007/2008 season.

Austria (Tina Unterberger/Thomas Kammerlander) won the final team competition in 2.30,92:0,27 minutes, 0,69 seconds ahead of Italy (Evelin Lanthaler/Patrick Pigneter), while Russia (Ekaterina Lavrentjewa/Aleksander Egorow) came third, 2 seconds behind . For Austria it was the second win of the season in the third team competition of the season.

Pigneter misses out on overall victory

At the last World Cup stage for natural track luge on Saturday in Umhausen in North Tyrol, local hero Thomas Kammerlander left nothing to be desired. He won the final on Saturday evening and gave Patrick Pigneter from Völs no chance of overall victory.
