Showdown in Umhausen

The 27th FIL European Luge Championships on natural track have barely been beaten when the next highlight is already coming up: from 15th to 17th. February 2018 will see the overall winners at the final of the GRM Group World Cup 2017/2018 in Umhausen, Austria named.

The starting position could hardly be more exciting, as the decisions are still pending in all categories, so every point is important for the athletes.

In the men's race, North Tyrolean Thomas Kammerlander goes into his home race as the big favorite.

A week ago he won two gold medals at the European Championships in Obdach-Winterleiten (AUT), and he is also going into the final with a lead of 15 points. Alex Gruber from Villandro lurks in second place and can win the crystal ball with a win. Third-placed Patrick Pigneter, however, only has a theoretical chance of overall victory,

In the women's competition, Evelin Lanthaler, who has a lead of 15 points in the overall standings over her second-placed teammate Greta Pinggera, wants to take back the title.

In order to achieve this and avoid a similar fate to last year, when she lost the overall victory in the very last race, Lanthaler must finish ahead of Pinggera in Umhausen, while the latter absolutely needs a win to defend her title.

In the double-seater, the crystal ball is just waiting to be picked up by Pigneter and Florian Clara. With an 85-point lead, they just need to finish in the points to secure overall victory.
