Staffler wins home World Cup in Laas

While the elite natural track toboggan world cup was hosted in distant Moscow at the weekend, the young tobogganers competed in the third stage of the world cup on the “Gafair” track in Laas.

Around 70 athletes from 20 nations took part. The victory among the juniors went to a local hero. 18-year-old Nadine Staffler triumphed confidently in her home race and clearly left Lisa Walch from Germany behind her. Staffler achieved the best time in both races and triumphed with a lead of 1,09 seconds over Walch. Third place went to Daniela Mittermair from Deutschnofen (+1,12). It was the first win of the season for Staffler.

This means that the podium looked exactly the same at all three previous World Cups, with the athletes only taking turns when it came to placings. Before the season finale on February 09th and 10th in Oberpfuss there is pure excitement, all three sledders are tied in the overall ranking with 255 points. Gruber narrowly missed out on victory In the juniors, the victory went to Fabian Achenrainer. The favorite from Austria prevailed over Schleiser Daniel Gruber (+0,16 seconds). For Gruber it was one of the greatest successes ever. The young Schleiser (born in 2002), who got within two hundredths of Achenrainer in the first run, still has a few years ahead of him as a junior. Third place went to Florian Haselrieder from Völs. Achenrainer and Miguel Brugger won the doubles. The Austrian duo, who won all three World Cup races of the season, relegated the Russian duo Kirill Kravchuk and Viacheslav Kudriavtsev to second place. Third place went to Germany, namely Oliver Schiller and Simon Dietz.
