South Tyrol dominates the start in Kühtai

The second day of racing began with a home win for Austria: The double-seater final was on the program on Sunday morning; after the first race on Saturday afternoon, last year's South Tyrolean winners Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara were tied at the same time as the world champion duo Rupert Brüggler/Tobias Angerer (AUT). on rank 1.

In the final, the local heroes were the only sleds to break the 29,91-second sound barrier with a time of 30 seconds; Pigneter/Clara had to make do with second place after a sub-optimal ride. Porshnev/Lazarev (RUS) drove the second best time in the final and thus pushed their teammates Egorov/Popov off the podium, who were third after the first run.

Hundredth crime thriller A hundredth thriller was in the air in the men's single-seater: last year's winner Thomas Kammerlander (AUT) finished the first run as the leader, Patrick Pigneter (Völs) followed in second place, 0,02 seconds behind, and the world champion was in third place Alex Gruber (Villanders).

In the second run, the track record tumbled several times: First, Florian Glatzl (AUT), who was fourth at halftime, set a new track record and took the lead. The third Alex Gruber improved the track record to 28,31 seconds, a time that the two front runners also bit their teeth on after the first run. Kammerlander was 0,03 seconds behind Gruber in second place, Pigneter even slipped off the podium in fourth place by 2 seconds. Lanthaler dominates In the women's category, Evelin Lanthaler (Moos in Passeier) more than lived up to her role as favorite. The 2017/18 overall winner dominated both training runs on Saturday and confidently took the lead in the first run, ahead of her teammates Greta Pinggera and Alexandra Pfattner. In the final, Tina Unterberger (AUT) set an exclamation mark and pushed Pfattner out of third place. Last year's winner Greta Pinggera pushed Unterberger out of the lead, but Lanthaler withstood the pressure, also set the best time in the second run and celebrated her first World Cup victory with a lead of 3 seconds in Kuhtai.

The final team competition was won by Italy (Evelin Lanthaler/Florian Clara/Alex Gruber) ahead of Austria (Tina Unterberger/Michael Scheikl/Thomas Kammerlander) and Russia (Ekaterina Lavrenteva/Aleksandr Egorov/GrigoryBukin).
