South Tyroleans with a large squad for the Toboggan World Cup

These days the local natural track tobogganers in Campill in Val Badia have been preparing for the new World Cup season. The first stage is already scheduled for the weekend in Kühtai. As usual, the “Azzurri” are among the big favorites.

At the start of the World Cup, 14 South Tyroleans make up the Italian national team: Patrick Pigneter, Florian Clara, Alex Gruber, Daniel Gruber, Florian Haselrieder, Stefan Federer, Patrick Lambacher, Matthias Lambacher, Mathias Troger as well as Greta Pinggera, Evelin Lanthaler, Alexandra Pfattner, Daniela Mittermair and Christa Unterholzner.

In the first World Cup stage, the “Azzurri” will start with seven men, five women and two doubles. After the first run on Saturday, four men and three women qualified for the crucial second run on Sunday. Those who do not qualify for the second run start in the Nations Cup.

Sports toboggan duo celebrates debut Patrick and Matthias Lambacher are taking part for the first time. The two brothers come from sports tobogganing and want to prove their skills in the doubles in the natural track tobogganing world cup. Last season they won, among other things, the world championship title in the doubles sport luge event.

Also taking part in Kühtai is Sara Bachmann from Latsch, who has been competing for the German national team for a year. She wants to attack again after an injury break. In May, Bachmann injured his back while working as a stonemason. A whole summer of physiotherapy was the result; she wasn't able to start training until September. South Tyroleans as top favorites The top favorites in Kühtai include Pigneter, Gruber and the North Tyrolean Thomas Kammerlander for the men, as well as Pinggera and Lanthaler for the women. Pigneter and Florian Clara are also among the big favorites in doubles. Last season Pinggera won the women's event in the Kühtai, Kammerlander the men's event and Pigneter/Clara won the doubles event. Pigneter wants the overall World Cup back Last year, the most successful natural track luger of all time, Patrick Pigneter, had to settle for third place in the overall World Cup ranking behind Kammerlander and Gruber. Now the Völser wants to attack at the front again.

“I worked well and want to get the overall World Cup back,” said the 31-year-old. He prepared well and kept fit in the summer with cycling, mountain tours and in the weight room. “I’m in great physical shape,” emphasizes Pigneter. The program at a glance Saturday, 15. When the Natural Track Luge World Cup begins in Kühtai this weekend, the South Tyroleans will once again be among the top favorites. The “Azzurri” are traveling to North Tyrol with a large squad.
