South Tyrolean natural track tobogganists dominate the World Cup opener in Kühtai

The doubles was a clear affair for Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara; the old masters in this discipline could not be beaten in the first run on Saturday. In the decisive second run on Sunday, Pigneter/Clara had a mistake in the upper part of the track, but in the end they were able to set the fastest time again. Their lead over second-placed Brüggler/Angerer (AUT) was over a second at the finish. Armin Folie from Passeir and his partner Simone Gaio started the new World Cup season with seventh place.

In the women's individual race, two South Tyroleans were on the podium: Greta Pinggera secured the day's victory with a brilliant second run, just ahead of local hero Tina Unterberger. Evelin Lanthaler from Platt in Passeier came third.

The men's individual race was a three-way battle between the half-time leader Alex Gruber from Villandro, Patrick Pigneter from Völs and the runner-up after run 1, Thomas Kammerlander from Austria. In the second run, Pigneter moved ahead and took the lead, but Kammerlander countered and took the lead. Alex Gruber couldn't quite withstand the pressure in the final and slipped to third place, just 0,04 seconds behind Patrick Pigneter.
