South Tyrol's natural track tobogganers dominate training in Nova Ponente

The Natural Track Luge World Cup is entering its hot phase this weekend. The battles for overall World Cup victories are coming to a head. In the men's race there is an exciting three-way battle between North Tyrolean Thomas Kammerlander, Alex Gruber from Villandro and Patrick Pigneter from Völs.

Alex Gruber, who won the last three World Cups in Nova Ponente, was the fastest in training on Friday. He pushed Kammerlander into second place by just 3 seconds. Third place went to Florian Clara. Pigneter held back in training and finished 0,07 seconds behind Gruber in fifth place. Lanthaler sets an exclamation mark In the women's race, the only winner in Deutschnofen was Evelin Lanthaler. The Passirian woman impressively demonstrated this during training. She was 0,40 seconds faster than second-place Greta Pinggera. The resurgent Russian Yekaterina Lavrentyeva, who made her comeback this season after the birth of her twins, took third place in training, 0,79 seconds behind Lanthaler.

Lanthaler, who had to make do with second place in the overall rankings last season, is well on the way to getting the coveted World Cup trophy back: The Passirian woman has won the last three races and has thus separated herself somewhat from the competition. Her lead over the second-placed defending champion Greta Pinggera from Laas is 30 points. Double seater: decision imminent For the doubles, the decision in the fight for the overall World Cup could be made as early as Saturday. Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara have won every race so far this season and have the opportunity to make everything clear with another victory on the Pföslriep track.

In training on Friday they once again dominated at will and ended up in first place, 0,92 seconds ahead of the Russian duo Pavel Porzhnev and Ivan Lazarev.
