Title fights in the Ötztal: The World Championships in Umhausen are coming up

Unless everything goes wrong, South Tyrol will take home some medals. The local athletes are among the absolute best in the world when it comes to natural track tobogganing. This is also confirmed by the crystal balls awarded for the overall World Cup. In the women's category, Evelin Lanthaler from Passiria won the coveted trophy, in the doubles category the duo Patrick Pigneter (Völs) and Florian Clara (Campill). The Azzurri, who only consist of South Tyroleans in natural track tobogganing, also won the national ranking.

The expectations are high. Especially among the women, because when it comes to the gold question, nothing goes past Evelin Lanthaler. Her worst opponent is also a South Tyrolean – Greta Pinggera from Lasa. She was her first pursuer in the overall World Cup and will be the same in Umhausen. In the men's event, Villandro's Alex Gruber will strive for gold. In the overall World Cup, the Austrian was able to grab the crystal ball in the last race in Laas, and Gruber wants to take revenge in Umhausen and be crowned world champion. The big favorite among the men is the local hero Thomas Kammerlander. He knows the train in Umhausen like the back of his hand. In the doubles, for gold you first and foremost have to beat the overall World Cup winners. Pigneter and Clara are the clear favorites for the title fights.

First corona test, then training day The delegations from the 20 expected nations will arrive in Umhausen on Thursday and immediately undergo a corona test. The various teams will then move into quarters and their management will take part in the team captains' meeting in the evening, which will be held virtually as part of a video conference. Friday, February 12th is all about the first training sessions.
