The two reigning world champions from South Tyrol, Alex Gruber (Villanders) and Evelin Lanthaler (Moos), triumphed in the single-seaters. The single-seater competition at the Luge World Cup on the natural track on the Bergkristallbahn in the Passeier Valley could not have been more exciting. After the first round, Thomas Kammerlander from Ötztal and Alex Gruber from Villanders were in the lead at the same time (54,11 seconds). In the decision, Gruber set the fastest time of the day (54,01) and took the lead with a total time of 1.48,12:0,27 minutes. Kammerlander was ahead by eight hundredths of a second in the first split, but then gradually lost ground and finally had to admit defeat, XNUMX seconds behind.

Patrick Pigneter from Völs completed the podium, losing 0,57 seconds to his teammate Gruber. After the first round, Pigneter was still in fourth place and swapped places in the decision with the Austrian Michael Scheikl, winner of the World Cup opener in Obdach-Winterleiten a week ago.

“I knew it would be a very close race. The Bergkristallbahn is not very long. There are three key spots and you have to get to them well. But I think that the many victories give me confidence that I am in good shape and also have excellent material. Thrilling pursuit races in the double seaters The Passeir World Cup event continued early on Saturday afternoon with the double-seater pursuit race. A total of ten sleds started here. Two doubles teams fought a direct duel. The slower team was eliminated, the faster team went one lap further. The final was ultimately contested by the last four remaining duos. Here there was a South Tyrolean double victory by Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara and Patrick Lambacher/Matthias Lambacher. The two young Austrians Fabian Achenrainer/Simon Achenrainer took third place.
