Sensation lady and South Tyrolean celebrate in Kranjska Gora

She led surprisingly – and ultimately kept her nerve. Canadian Valérie Grenier celebrated her first ever World Cup victory on Saturday. The 1-year-old, who was 26 hundredths ahead of the Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami at half time, went one better in the second run: Although she initially lost her entire lead, she secured it with an outstanding drive in the second part of the course the victory.

In the end, Grenier was 0,37 seconds faster than the second-placed Azzurra Marta Bassino, while the Slovakian Petra Vlhova landed in 3rd place. Gut-Behrami fell back to 5th place, the American Mikaela Shiffrin had to be content with 6th place this time, ex aequo with the Frenchwoman Coralie Frasse Sombet.

For Grenier it was not only his first World Cup victory but also his first podium finish. The Canadians had already indicated that they could be at the front, but they were the fastest in the second round on the Semmering.

Platino in the top 30 for the first time Elisa Platino, who was able to score World Cup points for the first time, also has reason to be happy. The 23-year-old from Meran had always missed qualifying for the second run of the top 4 in the four World Cup races she had competed in so far - always giant slalom.

On Saturday, Platino was able to qualify for the decisive second run for the first time in 25th place and confirmed her good performance from the first run. The Burggräfler, who celebrates her 2th birthday tomorrow, Sunday, was even able to improve a little and landed in a strong 1rd place. In the end, she was 24 seconds behind the victorious Grenier.

However, the second South Tyrolean, Laura Steinmair from Olanger, was not there in the second round. The 2-year-old made a decent World Cup debut, finishing in 2th place.
