Skeleton pilot Manuel Schwärzer gets a top 20 result

The German Kilian von Schleinitz secured victory in the Intercontinental Cup on Saturday (1:45,76 minutes), ahead of the two runners-up Pavel Kulikov from Russia and Felix Keisinger from Germany (both 1:45,91). Manuel Schwärzer from Meransen took 23rd place. On Sunday, Schwärzer improved to 20th place. The skeleton pilots from Germany dominated the race: Kilian von Scheinitz won ahead of Felix Keisinger and Michael Zachrau.

At the North American Cup, “Azzurro” Joseph Luke Cecchini secured the day’s victory on Saturday (1:46,87 minutes), ahead of Austin Florian from the USA. The women's race ended with a triple victory for the USA, Kelly Curtis (1:51,63 minutes) won ahead of her compatriots Samantha Culiver (1:51, 74) and Veronica Day (1:51,75). The South Tyrolean Erika Riedl came eleventh after two personal best times in the Whistler ice track. Riedl skipped the race on Sunday; the best “Azzurro” was Nicholas Adam Rettenmyer in ninth place. The German Kilian von Schleinitz also dominated the second race, while the women's victory went to the Canadian Lanette Prediger.

Skeleton season started at Whistler Mountain in Canada this weekend. Four races were held on the 2010 Olympic track over the weekend, two North American Cups and two Intercontinental Cups. Two South Tyroleans were there: Manuel Schwärzer and Erika Riedl.
