1,7 seconds in Alta Badia: Will Hirscher also break the lead record?

In the giant slalom in Alta Badia, Hirscher once again showed his class. In the end he won the race on the Gran Risa for the fifth time in a row. His lead over second-placed Henrik Kristoffersen was extraterrestrial, ultimately amounting to 1,7 seconds (!).

But: He clearly missed his own lead record, let alone the general record. In 2015, Hirscher set his personal lead record when he beat Felix Neureuther by 3,28 seconds in the giant slalom in Garmisch Partenkirchen.

That is and remains Hirscher's own best performance - but it is not enough to set a record. Others made sure of that – especially ski legend Ingemar Stenmark. In 1979, on Jasna's RTL, the Swede managed to distance his worst opponent Bojan Krizaj by 4,06 seconds. In the women's race, the Swiss Marie-Theres Nadig also achieved the feat of beating the Austrian Annemarie Moser-Pröll in the giant slalom in Furano in 1979 by a time of 5,20 seconds. These are the records in the four classic ski disciplines of downhill, super-G, slalom and giant slalom.

Things got down to business in Kitz In the Alpine Combined in Kitzbühel 2002, the gap between first and second was even greater. The Norwegian Kjetil Andre Aamodt won by a whopping 5,86 seconds. However, two slalom rounds were still held at that time, and many technicians did not dare to take on the merciless streak, which is why in the end only eight athletes appeared in the final ranking. The only Italian in the field, Kristian Ghedina, was seventh, almost 14 seconds behind.

Such records are unimaginable these days, the level is too high and the quality of the drivers is too high. But with Marcel Hirscher you never know...
