2 times gold: South Tyrolean festival at the Italian Championships

First Nicol Delago, then Alex Hofer: The two South Tyroleans won big at the Italian Championships on Friday. The Val Gardena woman won the gold medal in the Super-G, while the Castelrotto native was crowned the new national champion in the giant slalom.

Nicol Delago, who had already shone with silver in the downhill behind her sister Nadia , was unbeatable on Friday morning in Bardonecchia (Piedmont) and narrowly beat Roberta Melesi (+0,07 seconds). The bronze medal went to Nadia Delago, who, however, has already accumulated a considerable gap of 0,64 seconds. In any case, it was a liberation for Nicol, because her comeback season after a torn Achilles tendon turned out to be a tough affair. Medals also in the combination As with the men, the Super-G was the first part of the combination for the women. The second, i.e. the slalom, was held in the early afternoon. There Melesi turned the tables and became the combined Italian champion. Nicol Delago was happy with silver and won two medals within a few hours. There was also a sense of achievement for Karoline Pichler, who was able to wear the bronze precious metal. Hofer shines The Italian Championships are also a success story for Alex Hofer. On Thursday the man from Castelrotto laughed with the silver medal from the combined podium , now he can call himself Italian champion for the first time in his career. In the giant slalom, which took place in Sestriere (Piedmont), no one could hold a candle to the 27-year-old.

Silver went to the Italian super talent Giovanni Franzoni (he was crowned overall European Cup winner at the weekend), while Bolzano's Riccardo Tonetti took bronze. Luca De Aliprandini, Italy's strongest giant slalom, only ended up in 12th place, and Alex Vinatzer (20th) also had no chance.

While the speed competitions have now been completed, the women's giant slalom will take place on Saturday before the Italian Championships round off with the slaloms on Sunday.
