Departure Beaver Creek: Bad departure from Peter Fill

Due to adverse weather conditions with light snowfall and some fog, the start of the second descent of the season had to be moved to the entrance to the steep slope. That didn't make the task any easier. The race on the infamous Raptor slope was overshadowed by two serious falls: number 9 caused the German Kitzbühel winner Thomas Dreßen to lose his skis and the downhill specialist remained in the safety net. A little later, Peter Fill from Castelrotto fell shortly before the finish jump. Fill overlooked a bump and was catapulted into the air; after turning 180 degrees, his back hit the snow. Thankfully, Fill was able to reach the finish line independently. Further examinations will provide clarity about possible injuries or injuries. The most spectacular fall of the day was produced by the Serb Marko Vukicevic, who threw himself forward with a somersault after the “Golden Eagle” jump. Vukicevic was also able to reach the finish on his own.

The day's victory went to the Swiss downhill world champion Beat Feuz with a time of 1:13,59 minutes, just 0,07 seconds ahead of his teammate Mauro Caviezel. Last year's winner Aksel Lund Svindal from Norway came third (+0,08). For Feuz it is the first downhill victory in Beaver Creek, for Svindal it is the 14th podium on the “Birds of Prey” slope.

Clap for South Tyroleans The South Tyroleans didn't have a good day, Dominik Paris from Ultimo finished the race in 12th place (+0,77), Christof Innerhofer follows in 23rd position (+1,02). A week ago in Lake Louise, both were on the podium in second and third place. Emanuele Buzzi (Sappada/Plodn) landed in 22nd place (+1,01).

Werner Heel (Passeier) couldn't get going and had to settle for 56th place (+2,30), directly behind his teammate Mattia Casse, and Matteo Marsaglia finished 57th with the high number 29 and thus scored two more World Cup points.

The men's Super-G is on the program in Beaver Creek on Saturday, starting at 19 p.m. The giant slalom follows on Sunday.
