Departure from Jeongseon: Test pilot Dreßen failed in the first training session

Pyeongchang (SID) The German ski racers led by Kitzbühel winner Thomas Dreßen were not yet able to cope with the route in the first training run for the Olympic downhill on Sunday. Dreßen even missed a goal on the unchallenging "Jeongseon Downhill" and finished in 31st place. The 24-year-old was 2,28 seconds behind the Canadian Manuel Osborne-Paradis, who set a first benchmark time of 1:40,45. The best German in the first test drive, which was still not very meaningful and was also used by the drivers to test the appropriate material, was Josef Ferstl (Hammer) in 21st place (+1,84 seconds), Andreas Sander (Ennepetal) took 24th place (+ 1,94). Behind Osborne-Paradis, who was fastest in training, were Kjetil Jansrud (Norway/+0,31), who won the World Cup race at the same place two years ago, and Mauro Caviezel (Switzerland/+0,45). Dreßen drove with start number one, "that's never nice in the first training session, you're always a bit of a test pilot, even if the route isn't exactly spectacular," he said. The race, he added, will be “definitely a close story, which means don’t make any mistakes.” On the track in Jeongseon it is "hard to be fast, but easy to lose a lot of time." Slalom runner Linus Straßer (Munich) also ventured onto the course - he wants to start in the combination and therefore has to complete at least one training session. He was 6,63 seconds behind the best time - equivalent to 67th place. Two more training runs will take place on Friday and Saturday.
