Svindal sees the rise of the German Streif winner Thomas Dreßen into the world's elite downhill skiers as a win for more than just sport. The 35-year-old said Dreßen could play a role in the speed area like Felix Neureuther did in the technical disciplines: “A good German team is extremely important for our sport. Felix has been one of the world leaders in slalom and giant slalom for years. This was extremely important for skiing because Germany is an important market. If we have a guy like that with charisma in the speed disciplines on a permanent basis, then that will help us all.”

Retiring after almost two decades in the World Cup is currently not an issue for Svindal after overcoming knee problems. “I have been a professional skier for 16, 17 years. That's an extremely long time in my life. If I step back it will be a step for good, so I have to think about it carefully. I'm really having fun again now. When I stop I want to be absolutely safe and enjoy the ski races in front of the TV. “I don’t want to worry about the fact that I could also be at the start,” said the two-time overall World Cup winner, describing his thoughts.
