Alex Vinatzer: “That’s why I changed ski company”

Alex Vinatzer has just completed ski training - but not on a glacier, but in a ski hall in Belgium called Snow Valley. Training on European glaciers is currently almost impossible. “We were in Saas-Fee once, it wasn’t great,” says the Wolkensteiner. By the way, the ski hall in Belgium is not an emergency solution for this hot summer, but has been part of Vinatzer and Co.'s summer training program for four years.

In slalom, Vinatzer is undoubtedly a potential World Cup winning skater, but so far he has never been on top of a World Cup podium. But that wasn't the reason why he changed ski brands. “I tested Atomic and other products just out of curiosity. “It went well straight away with the Atomic ski, so I decided to switch,” says Vinatzer, whose contract with Nordica was about to expire. Now it was just a matter of being able to take his service man Michi Mölgg with him to Atomic. “That wasn’t a problem either. I expressed the wish and they immediately agreed.”

The head sponsor is also new at Vinatzer, and this is the absolute “big player” in sports sponsorship. The Red Bull logo will adorn Vinatzer's helmet, hat and cap. Working with Red Bull is not entirely new for him. He already had the Red Bull water bottle. This is called “product placement” in technical language. “This is of course a great honor. When Red Bull asks, you don’t say no,” Vinatzer clarifies.

Alex Vinatzer treated himself to a short vacation in May on the island of Santa Lucia in the Caribbean (“It's pretty nice, but it's much nicer in Sardinia”). Otherwise, there was a lot of dry training on the program under the guidance of his personal coach Elia Berti, mostly in the weight room in the morning and endurance training in the afternoon. Vinatzer is enthusiastic about the new slalom head coach Simone Deldio. Things have been going “super well” so far, and of course he hopes it stays that way. Starting in Sölden? A stay of three and a half weeks is planned in Ushuaia. Vinatzer also wants to do a lot of giant slalom there and compete in two South American Cup races. He would also like to take part in the World Cup opener in Sölden again, but he doesn't necessarily expect there to be a place available for him. If he doesn't start in Sölden, his season will begin on November 13th with the parallel race in Lech/Zürs. The first World Cup slalom is not scheduled until December 1th in Val d'Isere.

Alex Vinatzer: “That’s why I changed ski company”

For Alex Vinatzer, winter begins next week. He will travel with his teammates to training in wintry Ushuaia in Argentina on August 19th. In the spring, Vinatzer took a big step and changed ski companies. The head sponsor is also new.
