Alex Vinatzer celebrates his first victory in the European Cup

The 19-year-old from Wolkenstein was already lying in wait after the first round with the high starting number 35. Under Levi's typical floodlights, Vinatzer posted a bombshell time in the Finnish snow in the second run and celebrated his first victory in the European Cup. The two World Cup winners Linus Strasser (GER) and Alexander Khoroshilov (RUS) followed in second and third place. Strasser won the City Event in Stockholm (SWE) in January 2017 and Khoroshilov celebrated his only World Cup victory to date at the Night Race 2015 in Schladming.

The “Azzurri” impressed in Levi with a great team performance: Fabian Bacher from Ratschings came fifth, Olympic champion Giulano Razzoli eighth, Hans Vaccari twelfth and Hannes Zingerle (Gadertal) came 14th. Simon Maurberger from Ahrntal came 22nd, Federico Liberatore missed out 31st just outside the points.

In the EC slalom on Thursday, Vinatzer finished eleventh as the best South Tyrolean, immediately behind Razzoli and ahead of Bacher.
