Everyone fights – but only Gut-Behrami shines

In slightly sub-zero temperatures, Lara Gut-Behrami gave her competition a more impressive look and sealed her 35th World Cup victory thanks to a dream run in the Killington decision.

Among others, she overtook half-time leader Sara Hector, who only managed third place (+0,20 seconds). Marta Bassino pushed herself between the two veterans and celebrated her first podium finish of the season (+0,07).

Gut-Behrami, whose running time in the second round was only the seventh fastest, celebrated her first World Cup victory since the downhill run at Zauchensee last January. She last triumphed in the giant slalom in October 2016 in Sölden.

Shiffrin gives up at home races Mikaela Shiffrin, who will probably have to reckon with Gut-Behrami in the fight for the overall World Cup, surprisingly gave up in front of her home crowd. After her fantastic start in Levi with two wins, the American was aiming for a hat trick to start the season. But the 27-year-old clearly missed her goal and had to settle for a disappointing 13th place (+1,40).

While Bassino let the Azzurre celebrate their podium finish, Federica Brignone barely made it into the top 10 (9th/+0,95). Roberta Melesi was just behind her teammate (11th/+1,25). The South Tyrolean Karoline Pichler was eliminated in the first round in 44th place.

In the overall World Cup, Shiffrin continues to lead (220 points) ahead of Petra Vlhova (170) and Hector (141). Gut-Behrami logically took the lead in the discipline rankings.

On Sunday the technicians will continue with the third slalom of the season. The first round will take place at 16:15 p.m., the decision will be made at 19:00 p.m. The men, on the other hand, start their first downhill run of the season in Lake Louise on Saturday evening (from 20:30 p.m.).
