Everything is prepared on the Saslong

“Winning twice in Val Gardena is indescribable. The secret is to pick up speed and maintain it. I like riding here because the crowd creates a good atmosphere and likes us Norwegians.” Aksel Lund Svindal, who won both speed races in the Ladin Valley in December 2015, said this earlier this week. In addition to Svindal, only Primin Zurbriggen from Switzerland, Svindal's compatriot Lasse Kjus and the Austrian ski gentleman Michael Walchhofer managed to get on the list of winners in downhill and super-G. Winning the two races in one weekend – only Svindal has achieved this feat to date.

The Norwegian, who will celebrate his 26th birthday on December 34th, led a Norwegian triple success in the Super-G last year, which Kjetil Jansrud and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde completed. In the downhill, however, Svindal prevailed ahead of the Frenchman Guillermo Fayed and Jansrud, while Peter Fill (Castelrotto) impressed in his home race in fourth place.

The first training session on Wednesday

The extensive program on the Saslong begins this year on Wednesday, December 14th with the first downhill training. The first racer will be sent onto the Saslong at 12.15 p.m. A training run will also be held on Thursday on one of the most traditional World Cup slopes in the Alpine ski circuit from 12.15 p.m.

The first race is scheduled for Friday, December 16th. The Super-G starts at 12.15 p.m., just like the downhill run on Saturday.

Who will win the first South Tyrol Ski Trophy?

Both races on the Saslong are part of the South Tyrol Ski Trophy. The racer who scores the most World Cup points in the two speed races in Val Gardena and the giant slalom and parallel giant slalom in Alta Badia on Sunday and Monday will not only be able to look forward to generous additional prize money of 20.000 euros, which will be given to him as part of the award ceremony will be presented in front of around 7000 ski-loving spectators in the finish area and in front of the fans on the screens.
