Outfitter posse over ski ace ended

In the “ski boot case” surrounding Katharina Liensberger, the ÖSV top talent (3rd place Slalom Flachau 2019/World Cup Silver Team Event 2019/Olympic Silver Team Event 2018) apparently gave in after a conversation with association president Peter Schröcksnadel. Liensberger is returning to her old supplier Rossignol, ORF reported. The 22-year-old will start training with her old equipment from Monday.

The ÖSV boss insisted on returning to the old supplier Rossignol. From there, the 22-year-old moved to Kästle after last season. The Vorarlberg ski company, which is aiming for a World Cup comeback after more than 20 years, does not have its own range of shoes. Rossignol prohibits Liensberger from using the Lange shoes previously used and belonging to the group. An agreement with the Dalbello brand also fell through.

For Schröcksnadel the matter was already clear before his meeting with Liensberger: “She wants to hit her head against the wall. She's known since May that she wouldn't get a shoe from Lange." In order to avoid an impending ÖSV internal ban, Liensberger had to strap on the French bars again. The athlete, who is currently not allowed to take part in association training courses, does not have to fear any loss of performance on the “global brand Rossignol”. “As an association, we usually only intervene when an athlete cannot get along with a brand in a sporting sense,” said Schröcksnadel.

Schröcksnadel and Reinhold Zitz, managing director of the ski pool, insisted that the pool's statutes and the association's statutes be adhered to by all athletes. Apparently they feared a precedent would be set. Schröcksnadel: “You open doors that you shouldn’t open. The rules apply to everyone.”

But why Kästle was included in the ski pool without an existing shoe contract remained unclear. “They will now know that they have to look for a shoe. I assume they will have shoes next year,” Schröcksnadel said.

At the start in Sölden on October 26th, Kästle returns to the Ski World Cup with Adriana Jelinkova. The Dutchwoman came 2019th in the slalom at the 19 World Cup in Sweden. In the 1980s, the ski brand Kästle celebrated great successes with, among others, the Swiss Pirmin Zurbriggen (40 wins/Olympic champion/4x world champion).
