Azzurre in St. Vigil is extremely strong, only Mölgg has difficulties

The 25-year-old Norwegian, who has never been on the podium in giant slalom in her career, conjured up an almost perfect run on the Erta slope and left all the heavily talked about favorites behind her. At the halfway point of the race, however, she is only leading by eight hundredths over Marta Bassino. The Piedmontese woman was third on the podium in St. Vigil last year and is now aiming for the best World Cup placement of her career. Only a hundredth behind her is the German Viktoria Rebensburg, who made an impressive comeback after her three-week break from racing due to a virus infection.

In addition to Bassino, two other Italians have legitimate hopes of a top-three finish: Federica Brignone is in fifth place after the first run, Irene Curtoni is seventh. The top positions are also still within reach for Manuela Mölgg, although she has to improve significantly in the decision. The experienced Enneberg native couldn't find the perfect line on her home route and so her gap to the finish added up to 3 seconds. She takes position 1,52 in the ranking.

The decisive second run in St. Vigil is scheduled for 13 p.m.
