Baby joys: Italy's ski family is growing

Merighetti belonged to the generation around Johanna Schnarf, Verena Stuffer and the Fanchini sisters, competed in a total of 228 World Cup races and made it onto the podium six times, even reaching the top once. After her sporting career, the woman from Brescia pursued a career as a TV commentator.

Now, however, the focus is on private happiness: At the beginning of this week, the 38-year-old gave birth to little Anna. A statement from the Italian Ski Association stated that both Merighetti and the baby are doing well. Only in December was her long-time companion Nadia Fanchini became a mother for the first time .
