With Paris and Innerhofer the air is outside

It wasn't Vincent Kriechmayr's winter. The double world champion from Cortina d'Ampezzo never really got going this year - until the season finale, where he celebrated two victories within 24 hours. After the downhill triumph in Courchevel, the Upper Austrian also left all the competition behind in the Super-G.

“Such a finale is of course nice,” says Kriechmayr in an interview, in which he admits that he is not satisfied with this season. “Of course I wanted to compete for a ball and fight for a medal at the Olympics. But yes, it’s not a dream concert,” said the 30-year-old. No chance for “Domme” and “Inner” For Dominik Paris, the Super-G season ended with a 14th place. With this discipline, in which he became world champion in 2019 and won his only crystal ball, the man from Ultimo wasn't exactly on a cozy course this year. In seven races he only made it into the top 10 three times. Christof Innerhofer also couldn't get going in his last race of the season: he started as the last runner and ended up in 17th place. But it should also be said that the starting numbers at the back (Paris had the 17, Innerhofer the 22) no longer had the best conditions.

The newly crowned overall World Cup winner Marco Odermatt took second place, while Gino Caviezel, another Swiss, landed on the podium. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde missed the podium by 2 hundredths of a second. The Norwegian can console himself with the small crystal ball in the Super-G that he had in his pocket before the final appearance. He scored two points because he was already the outstanding athlete of the winter in the downhill.

A few hours earlier, Kilde's friend Mikaela Shiffrin had secured the overall World Cup with a second place in the final women's Super-G. The team competition is on the program in Courchevel on Friday, and on Saturday and Sunday it will be the turn of the technicians.

The last speed race of the season took place in Courchevel on Thursday afternoon. The South Tyroleans ranked beyond the top places, but an Austrian scored a double.
