Cason and De Leonardis on Piz Sella cannot be cracked

While Mattia Cason won the first FIS downhill run on Plan de Gralba on Tuesday with a lead of just a hundredth of a second, he doubled the time difference to 0,02 seconds on Wednesday. The 23-year-old from the Carabinieri sports group achieved the best time of the day in 1.26.22:XNUMX:XNUMX minutes and this time lost out to the German Jacob Schramm.

As on Tuesday, third place went to Monegasque Arnaud Alessandria, who lost five hundredths of a second to Cason. Another South Tyrolean, Maximilian Ranzi from Lana, made it into the top ten – he took seventh place. Max Perathoner (Wolkenstein), however, narrowly missed out on another top ten result in eleventh place. The best junior was the Swiss Alessio Miggiano in eighth place.

On the Piz Sella, however, there were two decisions for the women. In the first descent there was an Italian triple success with Carlotta De Leonardis, Elisa Maria Negri and Sofia Pizzato. De Leonardis was the only one who stayed under the 1.28,91:1.29 minute mark in 1,51:XNUMX minutes. As the best South Tyrolean, Sara Thaler from Val Gardena (St. Ulrich) took sixth place, losing XNUMX seconds to the day's winner. Immediately behind them were Nicole Ploner (Wolkenstein) and Chayenne Kostner (Castelrotto).

On run number two, De Leonardis improved her time by 0,04 seconds and won this time in 1.28,87:0,40 minutes. The Kenyan Sabrina Simader came closest to the young “Azzurra”, who was also named best junior in both races (+1.29,48). Sara Thaler took third place with a time of XNUMX:XNUMX minutes.

Among the more than 220 participating racers from 23 different nations, the best athlete from Italy who is not yet a member of a national team or sports group was also awarded. For the men, Glauco Antonioli accepted the check for 1000 euros, while for the women it was Elisa Maria Negri. The special prize was donated by the company CM Automazione.

The Raiffeisen FIS Challenge will conclude on Thursday with two Super-Gs on Piz Sella. The start time is set at 9 a.m.
