Danny Kastlunger new World Cup boss at Kronplatz

For 18 years, Willi Kastlunger headed the club, which has been organizing the major sporting events at Kronplatz for 20 years. The Enneberg sports veteran, born in 1943, took on the challenge of an experimental form of ski racing as part of the FIS European Cup in 2001 with the newly founded committee. The mode was called “4 runs”, but it remained a flash in the pan, but not the “Al Plan Events” committee, which has been organizing the European Cup races at Kronplatz ever since. Over the years there have been giant slaloms as well as slaloms and night parallel races, on the Furkel Pass, as well as on today's Erta World Cup slope and on the smaller Cianross slope in the village center of St. Vigil. Until the Olympic Games in Turin in 2006, Al Plan Events also organized the Snowboard World Cup with parallel races and boardercross. From 2008 to 2012, Willi Kastlunger and his colleagues caused a stir when they brought the Giro d'Italia to the summit of Kronplatz - initially as a stage finish, then as a separate stage from the main town of Enneberg to the Peace Bell Concordia at 2.275 m above sea level. It was a highlight in the event history of South Tyrol. From the beginning, Willi Kastlunger had one main goal: to bring the Ski World Cup to Kronplatz. The committee was determined and always organized the European Cup races at a very high level, almost as a small World Cup within the European Cup, in order to make a name for themselves. Al Plan Events was probably one of the first European Cup organizers to be present at every FIS congress. “So that they see us and then, over time, recognize us again,” Kastlunger always said to his colleagues. And so it was. Although a high-ranking FIS official at the time, Willi Kastlunger, had assured that Kronplatz would never have a World Cup, the youngest brother of ski and tourism pioneer Erich Kastlunger did not give up. In 2017, the first women's World Cup race took place on the Erta slope in St. Vigil and since then the women's ski circus has stopped at Kronplatz a total of four times. Mission completed for Willi Kastlunger. Danny Kastlunger: Maintaining the World Cup with hard work The newly elected president of “Al Plan Events”, Danny Kastlunger, has been with the committee since day one and knows all the processes like they do in the FF. As general manager in recent years, he has primarily looked after the technical aspects, such as the infrastructure, the slopes and TV broadcasting. As the nephew of outgoing President Willi Kastlunger, he is just as determined and results-oriented. “My main goal as president is to keep the World Cup long-term and we can only do that if we consistently ensure the highest quality – for the athletes and for the audience,” said Danny Kastlunger, who was appointed for 3 years. After the 2021 edition was a pandemic race without an audience, work is currently underway on the 2022 edition from January 25th, currently under “normal” conditions. The FIS officials will arrive in St. Vigil at the end of July for the traditional local inspection. Diego Clara was chosen as Danny Kastlunger's deputy and was responsible for press work on the organizing committee from the start.
