The 58-year-old from Salzburg will lead the successful and powerful winter sports apparatus together with ex-downhill skier Patrick Ortlieb (54) as head of finance and the neo-general secretary Christian Scherer (36), who is responsible for operational management.

The ÖSV presidential conference agreed on this on Wednesday after intensive negotiations in which a vote against Ortlieb, preferred by the influential Tyrol/Vorarlberg axis, was avoided. Accordingly, the designated head of the association and her two board colleagues will be re-elected on Friday afternoon in Anif at an extraordinary country conference until summer 2024. Originally, after the short-term incumbent Karl Schmidhofer withdrew, there was also the option of a transitional solution with Stadlober as interim president until next early summer. As a lesson from the recent, image-damaging turbulence, this time clarity was provided in a marathon meeting.

Stadlober made her first major appearance as designated ÖSV boss on Thursday evening (today) at the athletes' gala in Vienna, where the athletes of the year will be honored. An award that she herself received in 1986. For the first time as elected ÖSV boss, she will appear publicly next week at the start of the Alpine World Cup in Sölden, where, surprisingly, she has never been before. A well-known family Despite her own alpine career, Stadlober is more inclined towards the Nordic camp and knows the Innsbruck-based ÖSV very well. The 1987 slalom vice world champion has been a vice-president on the board for ten years; her narrower responsibilities have previously included biathlon, cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering and training. In addition, not least because of the cross-country skiing careers of her children Teresa (28) and Luis (30), she is very familiar with the structures and processes created under long-time president Peter Schröcksnadel. As a former ÖVP sports spokeswoman in the Salzburg state parliament, the passionate marathon runner also knows how day-to-day political business works.

The woman from Radstadt, who is married to the former world-class cross-country skier Alois Stadlober, has been managing director of the KADA association since 2010, which supports competitive athletes in their career planning during and after their active time. “I am very familiar with sports, including when it comes to sports funding or the sports structure in Austria,” she recently emphasized.

Like the hotelier Ortlieb, she will carry out her work as ÖSV boss on a voluntary basis. According to the distribution of tasks in the three-person leadership, she will represent the ÖSV in general matters relating to the association, head the executive committee, chair the state/presidential conference and act as the highest representative of the association. Together with Ortlieb and Scherer, she is authorized to sign. Stadlober will be the direct superior of the Secretary General, but economic matters will be the responsibility of the Ortlieb/Scherer duo.

“We are an equal team. We do this together and also report to the executive committee,” Stadlober confirmed the management team idea after her appointment. The ÖSV is a large company and requires several shoulders to distribute the load. The solution found also ensures the necessary stability. “We don’t necessarily need experiments now,” said Stadlober, who also announced a breath of fresh air. And she particularly wants to promote the ideas of younger employees. “The young people have ideas too, you have to let them develop.”
