The new life of Aksel Lund Svindal

“No, I didn’t think there would be so much going on,” says the “retired” ski legend to the Norwegian daily newspaper VG. Svindal ended his glorious career with a downhill silver medal around two years ago, after the World Ski Championships in Åre, and then devoted himself to his other passions. Such as stock market transactions and investments in start-ups, with which he has already made a fortune.

“I had started a lot of things alongside my career as a skier and did things at the same time. While I was injured, I sometimes had a full-time job,” says Svindal. The 38-year-old is currently working on a film that will soon be released in cinemas. So it's clear that his life consists of many business meetings at an early hour. Svindal is a workaholic Svindal, who is kept busy by his Cobber dog Molly, would have imagined a different life after the end of his career. “I thought that if I stopped, I would have a lot of time.” In fact, the opposite happened, says the Norwegian.

He tried to take breaks, "but when you're involved in something, you have the responsibility to follow it." Before, he had very good excuses as to why he could reduce the intensity of his work. “Now I don’t have it,” emphasizes Svindal. His secret is being part of an apparatus with “good people”. The two-time Olympic champion claims there is nothing he does alone.

The fact that he is always busy is annoying his girlfriend Amalie Iuel, who is a well-known track and field athlete, not - on the contrary: "I think she really likes it because the training group she's part of also has to do all day." That way she doesn't have to feel guilty, jokes Svindal, but adds: "If “I have a video meeting with someone in the USA in the evening, of course I think she might think it would be a little less.” Host of a well-known show As if Svindal didn't have enough on his plate with his duties as an entrepreneur, investor and ambassador for well-known brands, he has also taken on a moderator position. Starting next season, he will direct the show “The Master of the Masters,” in which current and former athletes have to master various tasks. “Little children watch the show and can find their way into sports through the program, and that’s what impresses me about the concept,” says Svindal.

Svindal doesn't take it easy in the ski guesthouse, "but now I realize that I really value a weekend," is the final word of the charismatic man from Lørenskog.
