Alice Merryweather is one of the great speed talents in the USA. But in the past few months, the 24-year-old has had to cope with several strokes of fate. Now there is another long compulsory break for the World Cup and Olympic participant.

Alice Merryweather caused a stir with her courageous letter in December 2020. She told her fans on social media at the time that she was suffering from an eating disorder. That's why she wasn't able to compete in any races last winter. This year the skier from the state of Massachusetts wanted to attack again - but nothing came of it after a truly horror fall. Injuries to the face and leg "Hello everyone! The good news is that I'm okay. The bad news is that I broke my tibia and fibula during downhill training in Saas Fee. We are still waiting for a diagnosis as to the extent of damage to the knee,” Merryweather wrote on social media. “I have already had a successful operation and I am being looked after very well.”

The US girl, who also sustained significant injuries to her face, wants to come back even after this serious injury. “The recovery ahead looks very different than my last one, but if I can rewire my brain, I think I can heal some bones and ligaments too.”

There were also numerous well wishes for the likeable Merryweather from the ski family, for example from Nicol and Nadia Delago. The Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoff Lie, who had a serious fall at the San Pellegrino Pass last year and also suffered several broken bones, wrote: “If I got through this, then you can do it too. Call me for tips and tricks.”

Merryweather became junior downhill world champion in 2017 and also finished in the top 10 of the World Cup twice.
