“Tears in the eyes”: The sad end of a skiing career

Charlotte Chable was once considered the great skiing hope in Switzerland. Would you like proof? In November 2015, at the tender age of 21, she came 9th in the slalom in Aspen - the best result for the Swiss, who had a great future ahead of her. Also because she won the parallel event with the Swiss team in St. Moritz in the same season. But in the years that followed, the now 27-year-old was dogged by an unspeakable streak of bad luck. Charlotte Chable tore her cruciate ligament twice, the last time in September 2020. Added to the two cruciate ligament tears she suffered in the 2012/13 season, she has four serious knee injuries. Even after this new setback, she worked hard to make a comeback, but now she came to the realization that she couldn't go any further. This week the slalom specialist announced her retirement from skiing. “I have tears in my eyes.” Charlotte Chable "As I write these lines I have tears in my eyes and I don't know if I have fully realized what is happening, but it's time to say goodbye," Chable wrote on social media. “From my first race at age 4, my first FIS podium, my first European Cup podium to my first World Cup podium – it was an incredible experience. Skiing was always my dream, but now I feel like I can't give 100 percent anymore. I feel that I can no longer reach my limits and that I can ski at the highest level,” are the touching lines of the Swiss woman. “It was a hard decision, but deep down I know it is the right one. I don't know if I'm ready for my new life. But I’m looking ahead and seeing what the future holds for me,” Chable concludes her post.
