Cyprien Sarrazin made his big appearance this year not in a race, but in training. In the dress rehearsal in Kitzbühel, the Frenchman achieved a sensational best time and became the secret favorite. In the end it wasn't a podium finish, but a 10th place in the most legendary race in the world is certainly impressive. Because you have to know: The 28-year-old competed in downhill races for the first time in his career this season.

However, there will be no further performances this winter. Sarrazin has to end his season early. The reason for this is problems in the lumbar region, which have already made it impossible to compete at the home World Cup. Sarrazin has now been given a 45-day rest break, which means it's over for him.

Formerly Gran Risa, now speed racing The Frenchman was one of the discoveries this season - at least when it came to speed. He skied his first downhill runs this year, a 6th place in Val Gardena and a 10th place in Kitzbühel impressively underlined his potential. In recent years, Sarrazin has specialized in technical disciplines, in 2016 he won the parallel giant slalom in Alta Badia, and in 2019 he came second in the giant slalom on the Gran Risa.

“I was previously slowed down by serious injuries and had to take a break for two years. That's why I chose the giant slalom for my comeback, but now I want to attack in the speed competitions, I've always liked that," said Sarrazin in an interview a few weeks ago.
